Roundtable Statement on Governor's Budget Proposal
January 25, 2018
We agree with Governor Carney that policymakers must focus on enacting budgets based on what is sustainable in future years.
Despite improved forecasts for the coming year, the Delaware Business Roundtable remains concerned about the sustainability of the state’s revenue sources. Delaware faces fundamentally shaky finances driven by unreliable and unpredictable revenue sources and ever-ballooning health, education and public employee expenses.
Looking ahead, state officials must carefully watch future state economic projections and other variables, such as the impact of the federal tax cuts, to determine whether the Governor’s proposal to increase state spending by 3.5 percent is truly sustainable.
