Roundtable Applauds General Assembly, Urges Lawmakers To Pass House Bill 460

The Roundtable commends the General Assembly for approving the budget in a timely manner this year. Before they leave for the year, however, the Roundtable believes lawmakers must approve House Bill 460 – a crucial first step to bringing Delaware’s long-term finances in order.

This legislation begins the process of enacting a constitutional amendment to smooth out the highs and lows of revenue projections and more prudently control state spending. It does so by

limiting year-to-year spending growth based on a series of economic indicators.

The General Assembly has an unprecedented opportunity to demonstrate to taxpayers that they are committed to a stronger, more secure fiscal approach built on long-term economic growth and restraint in state spending.

It’s encouraging to see the General Assembly praised for passing the budget on time, and House Bill 460 sounds like a smart safeguard against revenue swings by tying spending growth to economic indicators. That kind of forward-looking restraint really helps taxpayers trust the process.
